Race Course/Event Description
Overview:
The course is based on the
natural attributes of the area.
We
use a two transition site
approach. The swim and T1 is at
Banks Lake – Coulee Playland.
The swim is a one or two lap
triangle. All bike courses
start the same way. T2 and
finish line are located below
the dam (about 4 miles from
T1). The runs are one or
two loops down to the dam then
out and back along the Columbia
River. September weather is
historically highs in the low
70’s, moderate chance of
occasional showers. Winds
little to no wind historically
although in the first year the
bike was quite windy 20-30 mile
an hour gusts.

Run Courses

All Grand Columbian run courses begin and end at the same
place and run the
same route.
The run course will be an
out-and-back loop beginning at
Coulee Dam’s Mason City Park.
The run course begins by heading
uphill to Security gate and then
down to the spillway. Then
athletes will be on a packed
gravel trail that begins below
the bridge and heads north. The
majority of the run is pancake
flat. Half Iron does a single
complete loop. Iron distance
will do two loops of the same
course, passing the Finish Line
at Mason City Park (T2) to begin
the second loop.
Olympic does an out and back,
turning around just before the
Elmer City aid station. All athletes finish
with a short climb
back to Mason City
Park to either finish or to
begin the second loop (Iron).
